WHEATON, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A 49-year-old west suburban taxi driver has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after being convicted of sexually assaulting a passenger.
DuPage County prosecutors said it was the summer of 2017 when cab driver Sandeep Arora picked up two passengers in Naperville - and after dropping one off, he sexually assaulted the other one, leaving the woman with bruises.
Prosecutors said she was able to get out of the cab and hid in some bushes until a friend came to pick her up.
The state's attorney said Arora has to serve 19-and-a-half years of his 25-year sentence before he's eligible for parole.
“Mr. Arora committed a violent, horrific sexual assault on an innocent woman just trying to get home safely,” DuPage County State Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement.
“I thank the victim in this case for her strength and courage in bringing this matter to law enforcement and for facing her attacker in open court."
