CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Palos Heights had some extra money to be used for a good cause. And it snowballed into many causes.
Two hundred and forty-five people — adults and children — were given $100 each at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd and the school.
Pastor Chris Buresh said they were asked to help someone with the money and the response has been overwhelming.
“One of our younger members used what he received to help a local homeless shelter. We had another family who lived in a community where recently there was an individual who was hit by a car. They didn’t know the individual but they tracked down their house and gave it to one of the family members and was just touched by the story that was told,” Buresh told WBBM Newsradio.
He said someone else gave it to the newspaper delivery man.
A Vietnam veteran who’s day starts at 1am and he cares for his wife who has health problems.
“And it was just touching. It epitomizes the thought process behind this project,” Buresh said.
He said he heard from parents who said this opened up conversations with their kids about helping others.
