(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Three people, including two from Chicago, were recovering Monday after a small plane crash north of Detroit.
Police were called just before 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon to the Ray Community Airport, north of Detroit.
The pilot of a Beech A-36 plane reported that they had lost power to the engine after lifting the landing gear, shortly after taking off.
Macomb County police told WBBM that — from about 100 feet in the air — the pilot had to make a crash landing in a field just off the runway.
Three people were on board. All had lacerations, burns, and broken bones.
A 44-year old man and a 37-year old female, husband and wife, were treated and released from a hospital. A 17-year-old female from Georgia, the couple’s niece, was reported stable while still receiving treatment.
A 7-month-old golden retriever was also on board. It ran away from the crash and was lost for several hours before, reportedly, it was found by a newspaper delivery driver early Monday morning.
The identities have not yet been released.
Police said the three were visiting family in the area.
