(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A Chicagoan who makes his own tequila says his drink is a multi-cultural experience.
Uduimoh Umolu, a native of Rogers Park, is the founder of Jon Basil Tequila, a brand that is celebrating its 5th anniversary.
He tells the Noon Business Hour that he learned the art of tequila-making from master craftsmen in Mexico.
His parents are from Ghana, and he makes a Mexican spirit. Umolu said it’s easy to bridge the gap between cultures.
“It just took building those bridges and it took connecting those gaps to really start to show the similarities between cultures, which ultimately creates new cultures for us to appreciate and love.”
The name of the brand is derived from Jon, the name of his grandfather, and Basil, the name of the person who made it possible for his father to pursue dreams in the United States.
