Chicago man charged in killing of 26-year-old woman in South Shore

A Chicago man has been charged in the fatal shooting of a 26-year-old woman in the city’s South Shore neighborhood, police said.

CHICAGO (WBBM Newsradio) – A Chicago man has been charged in the fatal shooting of a 26-year-old woman in the city’s South Shore neighborhood, police said.

Travale Smith, 23, was arrested Friday afternoon in the 1300 block of East 60th Street, according to Chicago police. He is charged with one felony count of first-degree murder and one felony count of unlawful use of a weapon.

Investigators said Smith was identified as the suspect in the shooting death of the woman in the 7100 block of South Ridgeland Avenue on the city’s South Side. Police did not release the date or time of the shooting, and the woman’s name has not been made public.

Smith was taken into custody without incident and remains held pending a detention hearing scheduled for Monday.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.
