CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A Chicago man who was one of the first from the area to be charged with taking part in the January 6th riot at the U.S. Capitol has pleaded guilty to one felony and five misdemeanors.
Kevin Lyons admitted to his role as the capitol was stormed. He was confronted with his own social media posts and text messages.
Federal prosecutors say Lyons removed items from then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office, including a wallet and a photograph of Pelosi and the late civil rights icon and Congressman John Lewis.
Neither were returned.
He recorded himself saying, “We’re storming the Capitol building,” I guess we’re all going to jail.”
At one point, he texted a friend that he’s now a felon. The charges, including obstruction of an official proceeding, disorderly conduct and entering a restricted building could bring 10-16 months in prison.
Lyons will be sentenced in July.
