CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The winter storm has departed the Chicago area, leaving a few inches of snow for most. While in Northwest Indiana, lake effect snow showers continue this morning.

Predicted accumulations were accurate.

Here are some preliminary snow totals:

Rockford: 3.6 inches

South Elgin: 3.1 inches

O’Hare Airport: 2.0 inches

Midway Airport: 1.4 inches

Carol Stream: 1 inch

Carol Stream: 1 inch

Romeoville: 0.8 inch

Snow continues to fall in Northwest Indiana this morning. A band of lake effect snow has situated over Lake and Porter Counties. According to the National Weather Service, additional 1 to 3 inches of snow is expected, causing poor visibility and hazardous road conditions.

The storm front also left behind cold air. Today’s high temperature for the Chicago area will only reach 28 degrees, and tonight lows could range from 16 in the western suburbs to 24 at the Lakefront, AccuWeather says.

That fresh coating of snow will not last for long though. Tomorrow, mild air returns with temperatures in the mid 40s. By Sunday, we will see 50 degrees and sunshine.
