(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The city of Chicago is still waiting for its first measurable snowfall of the season, something that normally happens by mid-November.

Ricky Castro, meteorologist at the National Weather Service office in Romeoville, said it's often been too warm for snow.

And when it has been cold enough, the air's been too dry, he said Wednesday.

This doesn't mean Chicago is off the hook. The city could still be in store for a very snowy winter, Castro said.

Last winter started much like this one, he noted, before the city wound up with more snow than usual.

Chicago received nearly 3 feet of snow during a three-week period last January and February.
