Chicago tour bus with 31 people on board crashes into viaduct

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — One person is recovering from injuries they suffered after a double-decker tour bus crashed in the Loop Saturday.

Chicago police said it happened at about 3:30 p.m. The bus crashed into a viaduct near Lower Randolph Street and DuSable Lake Shore Drive.

The bus was trying to go from the Randolph Street exit of Lake Shore Drive to lower Randolph Street — where it hit the support beam, officials with the Chicago Fire Department said.

The top of the bus was completely sheared off.

CFD said 31 people were on board, but only one person was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with cuts to the head.

The bus driver has not been cited.
