(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Pullman community on the South Side is gearing up for a full roster of activities to celebrate Monday’s Juneteenth national holiday.

Anchoring that effort is the National A. Philip Randolph Pullman Porter Museum. President David Peterson Jr. says activities will kick off with a parade, followed by block parties, music and a basketball tournament. This year’s theme is ending gun violence.

“What we are intentionally doing is putting the neighbor back in the hood,” Peterson tells WBBM Newsradio.

The Pullman community and Juneteenth are the focus of this weekend’s “At Issue,” which airs at 9:30 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. Sunday.
