(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — As the search continues for whoever smashed dozens of pumpkins intended for a Deerfield church fundraiser, the rector says what started as bad news has turned into a happy story.
Anne Jolly, the priest at St. Gregory's Episcopal Church, tells WBBM Newsradio that people began coming to the church to offer help as she and her husband cleaned up the mess.
People offered words of encouragement, as well as donations to make up for the money lost from the destroyed pumpkins.
Jolly said most of the people offering to help are not members of the church, which shows how the worst in some people can bring out the best in others.
“It has been a beautiful gift,” she said.
