CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A Lincoln Park bar that transforms itself into pop-up versions of hit TV shows has just done it again, but it’s getting a mild rebuke from the Emmy-winning star of the show.
Schitt's Creek co-creator and star Dan Levy took to Twitter on Monday to clear up some rumors about Replay Lincoln Park's latest pop-up, Schitt Happens.
"Heard about a Schitt’s-inspired pop up happening in Chicago. I appreciate the enthusiasm, but the event isn’t sanctioned by Schitt’s Creek and rumors of cast attending are untrue. Encouraging all to keep making choices that do not risk the health & safety of themselves and others," the tweet read.
The pop-up, Schitt Happens opened Friday at Replay Lincoln Park, located at 2833 N. Sheffield Ave., with plans to run through April 1.
The bar has said on its social media that it is "not an official Schitt's Creek event," but that apparently did not keep fans from speculating.
“I mean, we knew the show was big, but we didn’t know it was this big and had such a cult following," said Jeremy Steffen, the art director who put the pop-up TV set together at Replay Lincoln Park.
Steffen said he’s indifferent about Levy's tweet.
“I mean, it’s exciting that it’s getting as much hype as it is. But I do want people to understand that we are more on top of being healthy. And we want everyone to be happy. We’re doing our best," he said.
Replay Lincoln Park said the socially-distanced pop-up will include a new food and drink menu, photo-ops including the Rosebud Motel, Cafe Tropical, Moira’s Wig Wall, the iconic welcome to Schitt’s Creek sign, and more.
The pop-up also will be featuring local vendors and artists selling goods through the "Rose Apothecary."
“We really have made a point to keep this as safe as possible. I can assure you that," Steffen said.
“And as far as the rumors with the actors - I’m not - I don’t think we started those rumors. I don’t know how those got into play."
Steffen said Replay is trying to work out something with lawyers for the show.
