Dog featured on 'Puppy Bowl' scores home in Chicago area

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A shepherd mix is apparently the toast of Oak Park after her appearance on the "Puppy Bowl." Her home shelter, PAWS Chicago, hopes to get the attention of people who may be interested in fostering pets.

PAWS Chicago has seen a slight uptick in social media attention since the appearance of a puppy they originally sheltered. Foofur, as the dog was called, survived a house fire in Tennessee and overcame parvovirus.

The canine was adopted soon after the Puppy Bowl segments were taped last fall, says Sarah McDonald, spokesperson for PAWS Chicago.

McDonald says Foofur's new family told PAWS that they took the dog for a walk recently at a forest preserve.

"They ran into another couple that had ended up adopting one of Foofur's litter mates that was also saved from the house fire, from the Tennessee shelter," she says. "So, what a small world."

McDonald says Foofur now has some celebrity status after her Puppy Bowl appearance.  And like many celebrities, she changed her name.  It's now Rosie.
