DUPAGE COUNTY (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Officials are seeking public input on a plan for the DuPage County trail system.

The DuPage County Division of Transportation is responsible for dozens of miles of trails and has just put out a draft of a plan for their future.

Mary Fitzgerald Ozog, the DuPage County board Transportation Committee chair, said DuPage County  is fortunate to have the trail system it has.

“We want to talk to the public about how they use the trail. We want input about how they feel about safety on the trail, signage, directional issues, maintenance issues and what we can do better,” she says.

Ozog said she’s especially familiar with, and has been a frequent user, of  the Illinois Prairie Path, which she’s lived next to for 37 years.

She said DuPage County trails have about 115,000  visitors a year.

You can check out the plan and offer a comment through November 17 at dupagetrailsplan.com.

Among the recommendations in the draft plan is to develop an inventory of trailside trees, known exotic species and noxious weeds as well as developing a signage and wayfinding plan.
