(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A McHenry County bakery that announced it was closing in the wake of hateful attacks over a planned drag show last summer will remain open.
Uprising Bakery & Café owner Corinna Sac says a Go Fund Me allowed her to erase $30,000 in debt and past-due rent.
She originally said the business would close March 31, following what she has said was a smear campaign by some people in the community following the drag-show controversy.
She says the fundraising effort will allow her to keep a portion of the café running while she plans to move the business to a new location in McHenry County.
Uprising became the target of threats and vandalism after it announced plans to hold a brunch and drag show last July.
"I'm not going to leave my home just because some people don't like me here," Sac said.
