DOLTON (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A new lawsuit against the mayor of Dolton alleges she improperly denied a barbershop a business license.

Longtime south suburban barber Tyrone Isom Jr. is suing Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard and the Village of Dolton for denying his two business license applications for no justifiable reason. Isom was working with the village to buy and renovate a building.

The lawsuit claims Isom did everything he was asked of the village, but was given the "runaround."

The complaint alleges that the mayor has "a policy of choosing/denying applicants" for "financial and political reasons."

The suit marks the latest chapter in political turmoil that has consumed the village for several months. In recent months, several other lawsuits have been filed against Henyard, with former Dolton and Thornton Township employees alleging wrongful termination.

Just last Friday, the FBI conducted an authorized search of the Dolton Village Hall, but would not elaborate on the nature of the investigation.

Earlier last week, Dolton Trustee Keith Douglas Freeman was charged with bankruptcy fraud. Prosecutors have alleged Freeman lied several times when he filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in an attempt to hide how much money he made from his work as the village administrator for Dolton, the municipality manager for Thornton Township and from his private consulting business.

This announcement came months after village trustees in Dolton called for a federal investigation into  Henyard. She has been accused of spending village funds on lavish trips for staff and received a cease and desist letter from the Illinois Attorney General's Office over her charity foundation's failure to report how it spent funds.

Former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot has agreed to investigate these wrongdoings.

"The residents of Dolton deserve nothing less than a government that is fully accountable, responsive, transparent and effective stewards of your precious tax dollars," Lightfoot said at a recent village board meeting.
