(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Schenita Stewart was sworn in Monday night as the first permanent female police chief in Evanston history.
Stewart grew up in Evanston and graduated from Evanston Township High School. Most recently, she served as deputy chief of the East Dundee Police Department.
Mayor Daniel Biss said Stewart is the complete package.
She has a master’s degree and graduated from Northwestern’s School of Police Staff and Command and Executive Management program.
Stewart is called the first permanent female police chief in Evanston’s history because — when the northern suburb began looking for a new chief to replace Demitrous Cook last year — Aretha Barnes became interim chief for several months.
