(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Chicagoans are getting a better idea of what a new White Sox stadium might look like, along the banks of the Chicago River’s south branch, in a future city neighborhood known as “The 78.”
Private developers with Related Midwest, which owns the 62-acre property at Clark and Roosevelt, on Wednesday released several digital images that envision a ballpark within the redeveloped, mixed-use site on a former railroad hub.

The unveiling of the images comes as momentum appears to be gaining for the idea of the Chicago White Sox relocating from the state-owned Guaranteed Rate Field in Bridgeport at 35th and Shields. A variety of city officials have spoken favorably about a stadium in The 78, although details are far from worked out.
Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker has already said he does not favor using public resources to assist privately owned professional sports franchises, beyond the usual type of infrastructure expenses government pays to stimulate economic growth.
But many observers have said a new White Sox stadium, if realized, could help revitalize both the South Side team, which can be overshadowed by the Cubs on the North Side, and the dormant area on the outskirts of the South Loop.
