DOLTON (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - An embattled politician in the south suburbs is fighting to get on the ballot for next year’s election.

Thornton Township Supervisor Tiffany Henyard took to social media after a Democratic caucus last week voted to keep her from seeking reelection.

“I want you all to see me still standing strong despite everything I’m going through,” Henyard said. “I want you all to see I was the only one in there fighting for what’s right.”

Members of the Thornton Caucus said Henyard can’t be on the ballot because she doesn’t have a certified assessor on her ticket.

Henyard, who’s also the mayor of Dolton, said it’s voter suppression.

“We are not going to stand for this,” she added. “We are not going to allow them to take your right to vote away.”

Right now, State Senator Napoleon Harris is the Democratic Party’s nominee for next spring’s election.

Henyard said her lawyer will be filing a lawsuit this week.
