(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — State transportation officials are warning of significant delays on I-80 in Joliet this fall as crews make critical repairs.
The extensive work begins in two weeks. Illinois Department of Transportation crews will start pavement patching and bridge repairs after Labor Day between Raynor Avenue and Gardner Street.
During the work, the road will become one lane each way beginning at 10 p.m. Thursdays through 5 a.m. Mondays, officials said. Ramp closures are expected.
IDOT says 80,000 vehicles use I-80 through Will County each day, and about a quarter of those are trucks. Agency officials say they’re reaching out to local companies and the industry at large to warn about the closures and congestion.
Full reconstruction of the 16-mile corridor is expected to start next year and be done by 2028.
