Lake County Board to consider new, consolidated 911 center

911 call

LIBERTYVILLE, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A plan goes before the north suburban Lake County Board on Tuesday on a proposed new 911 center.

The proposed 911 center is designed to further consolidate emergency dispatch operations in Lake County, making the dispatching of emergency crews more seamless.

According to the Daily Herald, the center would cost $35 million. Right now, the 911 center is a concept. If approved Tuesday, it would move into the design phase.

Lake County Sheriff John Idleburg said the center would save taxpayers money, as well as save lives by improving response times by police and fire departments.

"We are proud to support and help lead this important initiative, which will save Lake County taxpayer dollars and save lives by improving emergency response," Lake County Sheriff John Idleburg said. "I am grateful for so many stakeholders working together to provide exceptional service to the Lake County community."

According to the Daily Herald, by consolidating dispatching services, the center would allow dispatchers to use fewer steps in order to get emergency crews where they need to go.

It would also be designed with the dispatchers’ health in mind, because their job is such a stressful one. There’d be a more modern break room and wellness area.

U.S. Rep Brad Schneider is pushing to have federal money used to help pay for the new 911 center.
