(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Lake County State's Attorney Eric Rinehart said he will put a Round Lake Beach man on trial for murder again, after his conviction was thrown out because the jury mistakenly had access to the prosecution's PowerPoint presentation.

Now that an appeals court has tossed out the second-degree murder conviction of 38-year-old Lynell Glover, Lake County State's Attorney Eric Rinehart said he will retry the case.

Glover was accused of shooting 17-year-old brothers in 2021 — and killing one of them — after they stole his car.

The state's attorney said the jury inadvertently was given a copy of prosecutors' PowerPoint presentation used during closing arguments, and the appeals court said that material should not have been given to jurors during deliberations.

“Mr. Glover chased down two people who were running away from him and shot them,” Rinehart said. “Regardless of what they had done to his property, he shouldn’t have taken the law into his own hands.”

Rinehart added that the PowerPoint presentation was “properly used in closing arguments” and said neither the State nor the defense knew the PowerPoint had been sent back to the jury on the second day of its deliberations.
