CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) --Plans for a Chicago Casino are now before the Illinois gaming board for approval. Meanwhile Mayor Lori Lightfoot has appointed an advisory group to make sure community voices are heard.
Lightfoot has named the 19 members of new Casino Community Advisory Council. She said that since the start of the process to bring a casino to Chicago, she's been dedicated to making sure residents have every opportunity to share their thoughts and concerns.
"This Community Advisory Council will create a tangible space for this important engagement and allow community stakeholders of all kinds to have a meaningful impact before, during, and after the casino's construction."
In fact, a few community and religious groups are fighting against Bally's plans for a casino and entertainment complex, but the Mayor said the advisory council will allow community stakeholders of all kinds to have a meaningful impact before, during, and after the casino's construction."
The mayor has named four neighborhood representatives, and 15 so-called issue experts including business groups, think tanks, and labor and urban planners.
Lightfoot said the so-called Casino Community Advisory Council will meet quarterly to discuss the project and address issues raised by community members including issues relating to arts and entertainment, economic development and planning, social impacts of gambling, and more.
She said it will continue to meet even after the casino is up and running, assuming it is approved and built.
