LISLE, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A Lisle High School student raised concerns Monday about alleged anti-Islamic comments by a teacher at the school.
Sophomore Zoya Shaik said during a school board meeting that she’s the only student in the entire school who wears a Hijab and went on to describe what she said happened two weeks ago.
She said a teacher singled her out and lectured her on race and "background checks on these people" including Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, the only U.S. representative who wears a hijab.
"The staff member further continue a barrage of allegations on incestual relations of Muslims, immigration, deportation," Shaik said addressing board members.
"After being told that it was offensive and completely inaccurate, she loudly ended the entirety of a 25-minute tirade with vulgar profanity in a classroom."
Shaik expressed her frustration with the fact that administrators didn't know what to about the incident and called for sensitivity training for teachers.
