(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Four people were killed, and two others were injured in Wisconsin on Saturday after two separate aircraft crashes that took place in a matter of hours.

The first crash happened near Oshkosh, Wis., at about 9 a.m. Officials said a small, North American T-6 airplane carrying two people crashed into Lake Winnebago after departing from Wittman Regional Airport. Both individuals were killed.

Later in the day, a helicopter and a gyrocopter collided in midair, and officials said the crash happened at Wittman Regional Airport, as well. The collision left people dead and two others injured.

A spokesperson for the Experimental Aircraft Association said the midair collision happened a little before noon.

The aircraft belonged to individuals attending the Experimental Aircraft Association's annual fly-in convention in Oshkosh but were not involved in the air show, a statement from the organization said.

The association said further information would be released as additional details are confirmed.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating both crashes.
