JOLIET, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- There is new uncertainty over plans to build an opioid recovery center in Joliet.

Under a proposal by Volunteers of America Illinois, 42 apartments will be built on the former Silver Cross Hospital campus designed for women recovering from opioid addiction, as well as their children.

But the Joliet Herald News reported some at City Hall are now pushing back at the plan, including City Manager James Capparelli, who has recommending denying approval of the special-use permit needed to build the facility.

The reasons for the new opposition are unclear, with Capparelli only citing "further information that has been provided."

Some have questioned the security of the facility in past meetings.
