Police warn of armed robbery pattern on Chicago’s South Side

Chicago police are warning residents about a series of armed robberies reported in the Washington Park and West Woodlawn neighborhoods on the city’s South Side.

CHICAGO (WBBM Newsradio) – Chicago police are warning residents about a series of armed robberies reported in the Washington Park and West Woodlawn neighborhoods on the city’s South Side.

According to the Chicago Police Department, the incidents happened between late December and early Sunday morning and involved groups of two to four suspects. Police say the offenders arrived in a white sedan, got out, displayed handguns and demanded victims’ property before fleeing in the vehicle.

In one of the robberies, investigators say a victim was forced into the car and ordered to provide access to a bank account.

The robberies were reported in the 5200 and 5700 blocks of South Michigan Avenue, the 0–100 block of West 59th Street and the 6100 block of South Langley Avenue.

Police describe the suspects as young men wearing black hooded sweatshirts and ski masks.
