ROMEOVILLE, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A new bill Governor J.B. Pritzker signed in Romeoville Wednesday aims to help out grandparents in Will County who are raising children.
House Bill 0780 establishes a Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Pilot Program in Will County.
Paula Basta with the Illinois Department on Aging said the program requires an intake coordinator to connect grandparents raising grandchildren to resources from state agencies.
"The caregivers will be able to walk and talk with a real person who's an expert at navigating state agencies, meaning families get connected immediately with resources and hopefully very efficiently."
State Senator Meg Cappel said the law will not only help out grandparents, but grandchildren as well.
"We want our students and our kids to succeed with this, they will be able to pave the way toward a bright future so they can achieve their goals and thrive in every opportunity they have. Not only are we helping caretakers, but we are helping the children."
