(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Most residential property owners won't see staggering increases in the values of their homes as they receive their new assessments, a Cook County official said Tuesday.
County Assessor Fritz Kaegi said reassessments for Norridge and Harwood Heights already have gone out, albeit a bit late because of the installation of a new computer system.
These are the first reassessments he's done since having to undo what he calls the mess left by his predecessor, Joseph Berrios. Under Berrios, many commercial properties were undervalued at the expense of some residential properties, Kaegi has said.
Property owners shouldn't see much of an increase if any — or at least nothing to compare with previous sticker-shock experiences.
Kaegi is seeking re-election and recently won the Democratic nomination.
