(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Former Chicago Alderman Ed Burke is due to be sentenced next week, and the courtroom could be crowded with those who have something to say.

Court officials have received a number of calls from members of the public who want to speak at Ed Burke's Sentencing hearing.

Burke. 80, was convicted last year on 13 counts of bribery, attempted extortion and racketeering.

Burke was accused of using his City Hall power and clout to try and get business for his private Chicago-based law firm from developers, including a New York-based team that was tackling the renovation of the old Post Office.

The court says if anyone asserts they have been a victim of a crime as related to Burke's case, they should contact the United States Attorney's Office and speak to the Victim Witness Coordinator in order to make a presentation.

The court also reports it received hundreds of letters in support of Burke.

Burke’s sentencing is scheduled by federal Judge Virginia Kendall on June 24. Prosecutors say he should get ten years in prison.
