(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – News Monday that the Chicago Bears say they're willing put up $2 billion for a domed lakefront stadium doesn't entirely mean they won’t still go to northwest suburban Arlington Heights.
Dan Gleason, a commercial real-estate expert with Keller Williams Success Realty in McHenry, said there's a reason the team paid nearly $200 million for the property: Many fans already come from the suburbs. Plus, he said, the team can oversee other aspects of the redevelopment.
It’s too early to say how much the team would recoup by turning around and selling the Arlington Heights property, either as a whole or in parcels, Gleason said.
“Ultimately, it’s really going to depend on what the market dictates at the time,” he said.
And, he said, he’s still not convinced the NFL franchise won’t build their stadium in Arlington Heights.
“They’re $200 million plus the cost of demolition already into the project,” Gleason said.
