Rosemont cracks down on bus companies that transport migrants

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Rosemont is the latest community in the Chicago area to take action against bus companies from Texas that drop off asylum-seekers.

Rosemont trustees this week approved an ordinance that would fine bus companies $750 per vehicle and impound buses when they drop off migrants without following rules about when and where that can happen. Drivers can also be arrested.

The Chicago Sun-Times and Daily Herald report the ordinance comes after about half a dozen buses started bringing asylum-seekers to Rosemont on Dec. 6.

Cicero has a similar ordinance, but its measure carries fines of $750 per migrant.

Chicago aldermen have approved stricter penalties for bus companies that do not follow rules about when and where migrants can be dropped off.
