ROUND LAKE BEACH (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Charges have been filed against a Round Lake Beach teenager who was shot-at last week by a police officer after allegedly pointing a fake gun.
The Deputy Police Chief, Wayne Wilde, said someone called 911 and reported that the juvenile pointed a gun at him. Responding officers thought it was real.
It looked "exactly like a real gun," Wilde said. And when the boy pointed it at the officers, he said, one of them fired three times, missing the boy.
They took him to a hospital for a mental evaluation. The officer was shaken up and checked out, too. The boy was later released to his family.
The teen is now charged as a juvenile with aggravated assault with a firearm, aggravated assault with a firearm to police, aggravated battery to a police officer and disorderly conduct.
