(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A man twice convicted of abusing children has been ordered to remain in state custody even though his prison sentence has been served.
Onetime parolee Steven Casper was convicted in 1999 of sexually abusing nine students during private music lessons in Kendall and DuPage counties, according to Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul
The victims were 11 to 16 years old.
A Kendall County judge has determined Casper is a sexually violent person and must remain in state custody for treatment, Raoul said in a news release.
“I am hopeful the judge’s decision will help prevent this individual from being able to abuse other Illinois children,” he said.
Casper previously had been convicted of convicted in 1991 of sexually abusing male students at a music school in Macon County, Raoul said.
