(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Registration for summer camps is underway, and one suburban venue says slots are filling up fast.
Now entering its third summer, The Forge: Lemont Quarries is offering a Quarry Camp for kids -- a week of recreation and education at the 300-acre adventure park.
"They get to climb, they get to zipline, they get to kayak and laser tag and archery and orienteering and our scavenger hunts," said Heather Hutchison, education programming director at The Forge.
Even though warmer weather is months away, Hutchison tells WBBM Newsradio she's noticed parents have been more aggressive when it comes to making summer plans.
"We have two weeks that are filled up already, and we have a wonderful, loyal following of kids that want to come back," she said. "It is going faster than we've seen, which is awesome."
The good news is, there's still plenty of room available.
Despite the pandemic, The Forge has been growing and adding activities, including two new summer programs, Camp Coyote and Camp Survive.
"Camp Coyote, which is for our ages three to six, will start in July for half a day to kind of get those little ones outside and kind of mirroring the activities that we have at The Forge, but at a more accessible level for younger campers," said Hutchison. "And Camp Survive is going to be putting up tents and having almost an overnight camping experience, without the overnight part."
Parents can register for summer camps at the Lemont Quarries online at ForgeParks.com.
