(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A Springfield man is at least the sixth person from Illinois to be charged in connection with the Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol breach.
Federal prosecutors say Thomas B. Adams Jr., 39, carried a Trump flag onto the U.S. Senate floor. The Chicago Sun-Times reports Adams came to the attention of authorities after he was quoted in a publication saying he'd trampled a police barricade to get into the complex and allegedly said it was a "really fun time."
FBI agents said Adams claims he entered the Capitol simply because the door was open and didn't realize anything was wrong until he noticed broken glass.
The worst thing he did, Adams reportedly told authorities, was try to retrieve the eyeglasses of a friend when an officer was trying to mace the person.
Additional details about Adams were not immediately available.
