(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – The Big Game may be over, but Valentine’s Day is like the Super Bowl if you are in the chocolate business.

Staff at Belgian Chocolatier Piron Inc. in Evanston were busy pouring silky chocolate into molds and dipping dried fruits ahead of their busiest single day of the year.

Co-owner Bob Piron was trained in classical chocolate making in Antwerp and has been selling candies for 40 years.

The family-owned business sells online and ships across the country, but he suggests visiting in person if you hope to give your Valentine a hand-made velvet box of their chocolates.

"Come in to the store. Stand in line. You meet the nicest people here," Piron said.

One customer we caught up with was buying a variety box for his parents. He didn’t consider the $55-dollar-a-pound price tag too high, given the quality of the chocolate.

Valentine’s Day falls on Ash Wednesday this year, leaving Piron unsure of what to expect when many Roman Catholics fast that day.
