CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO)- A financial reward is now being offered for information leading to the arrest of two men, accused of robbing a U.S. postal service worker at gunpoint on Chicago's Far South Side last week.
"Letter carriers are no different than anyone else trying to do their job in their community," U.S. Postal Inspector Spencer Block said.
According to Block, things took a turn for one carrier last Monday in Rosemoor, at 99th and Calumet, when they were robbed by two men at gunpoint.
The U.S. Postal Inspection Service said the two suspects fled on foot and then got away in what appears to be a mid-200s gray Mazda sedan. The Inspection Service has now posted a reward of up to $25,000 for information about the robbery.
"Seeing what's happening with rising crime trends, what we need to all be cognizant of is our surroundings, to be vigilant about the areas around us, and the people around us, and understand that anyone can be a target," added Block.
Anyone with information or who fears they had mail stolen in the robbery are being urged to contact law enforcement.
