CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Union League Club of Chicago may be turning to some of its prized artwork for financial help.

In a letter to its members, the club's president said the board has approved the sale of two paintings. One is a Monet that features blooming apple trees, and the other is Walter Ufer’s “Land of Mañana.”

Winston Art Group was hired by the club to handle the sales.

Proceeds will be used to pay off some of the club's debt and fund renovations to dining and event spaces.

The Union League Club dates back to 1879, during which time its membership has included a vice president of the United States, Marshall Field — who founded the eponymous company — judges, architects and more.
