(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A former Chicago woman has been sentenced to three years in prison after defrauding the Chicago Housing Authority and committing forgery while on probation.
Silk Lumpkins was convicted of state benefits fraud for omitting information about her income and assets when she applied for public housing.
The CHA Inspector General found that she was using an alias and a second social security number. Lumpkins also didn't disclose a home she owned in Crystal Lake, child support payments and other assets, the inspector general said.
The Attorney General's Office said the 47-year-old fraudulently obtained more than $100,000 in benefits from the CHA between 2015 and 2020.
She was ordered to pay it back, but the Attorney General's office said Lumpkins attempted a forgery on her first payment. She allegedly got a $20 cashier's check, then altered it to appear worth $20,000.
Lumpkins has a previous conviction of bank robbery from 2010, for which Lumpkins was sentenced to 18 months in prison.
