And now for news no one wants to hear: Another busy hurricane season is expected in 2022.

It’s the seventh straight year that the number of hurricanes is expected to rise above average levels, according to weather researchers from Colorado State University.

This year’s prediction: 19 named storms in the Atlantic Ocean, with at least four approaching Category 3 or higher levels of strength.

The average for hurricane season is 14 named storms. 2021, coincidentally, saw 21, while the historic 2020 hurricane season gave us a record 30.

“The team predicts that 2022 hurricane activity will be about 130 percent of the average season from 1991-2020. By comparison, 2021's hurricane activity was about 120 percent of the average season,” the report said.

Hurricane season begins on June 1 and runs through November 30.
