A fast food drive through was the unlikely site of an armored truck robbery Thursday, according to reports.
It was around 1 p.m. when people with guns demanded money from the driver of the Loomis truck in the Whataburger parking lot at 303 Roland Rd. in San Antonio, Texas. Per News 4, the driver may have been in the drive through line at the time.
Loomis has a fleet of over 3,000 vehicles and performs cash-in-transit services for retail businesses and financial institutions.
My San Antonio, citing a preliminary police report, said there were four suspects at large Thursday after the reported robbery. According to the report, the driver was held at gunpoint while the suspects took money from the vehicle. They fled before law enforcement arrived.
This is far from the first time that firearms have been pulled in a fast food parking lot. Last month, KIRO 7 reported that a Florida woman was “accused of waving a loaded pistol at a McDonald’s drive-thru because she did not receive a free cookie,” citing an arrest affidavit. In October, CBS News reported that a “man fired a gun at a drive-thru in a Virginia restaurant, injuring an employee,” and that police said two children were in the car.
In recent years, Audacy has also reported on multiple firearm-related incidents at drive through windows. Back in April 2021, a woman reportedly opened fire at a Burger King drive through in Tennessee when the wait time exceeded her expectations.
That August, WWJ reported about a Garden City man who allegedly pulled a gun on customers as he worked a drive-thru window at a Burger King. In September, the outlet reported that a Taco Bell customer called 911 on another over an alleged gun threat in line at a drive through in Troy, Mich.
Just last month, WWJ reported on a man who was behind bars after he allegedly used a firearm to get a free pop at a Taco Bell drive through in Washtenaw County.
Regarding the recent case in Texas, “SAPD searched the area but couldn’t find the suspects,” said My San Antonio. A police investigation was ongoing as of Thursday and police had not provided information about how much money the suspects took, according to the outlet.
