In an unexpected turn of events, an Ohio man made a dramatic one-handed catch nine months AFTER he scored in the new fatherhood division.
Ryan Emge’s wife Kelli was in labor, and the baby decided it was time to make its way into the world as they were driving to the hospital.
The couple’s fourth child Rebecca emerged with Kelli propped backward on the front passenger seat. Ryan kept one hand on the steering wheel and caught his new daughter with his free hand.
“Real quickly, [Kelli] took her seatbelt off, put her knees on the seat facing the back and started giving birth in the passenger seat while I was driving on the highway,” Ryan Emge told WXIX-TV. “I had kind of a freak-out and I was like, ‘Honey, do you want me to pull over? What do I do here?’ And she’s like, ‘No, keep going, we need to get to the hospital.’ The baby started coming out, so I just reached over with my hand and I caught the baby.”
Ryan was quick to deflect any credit for his stellar dexterity, instead giving props to his wife.
“It was, like, the most impressive thing I’ve ever seen,” he told WXIX. “She just handled the whole thing.”
