CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- South Middle School students and faculty were seeing green on Tuesday.
"We had a green out," said Taylor Petrillo, 14, who lost his brother Matthew in September.
"Matt was the most caring person you'll ever meet. He was a daredevil, he was hilarious," Taylor recalls.
His family learned that his big brother was an organ donor.
"When I first heard about it, that he did this I was nervous, but after that, I was just so happy, because I knew he always wanted to help people and he could still do that," Taylor said.
Matthew Petrillo's organs saved four people.
Taylor started thinking about how he could continue Matthew's legacy.
Taylor said he was surprised by the participation.
"Everyone wore green. It was more than I expected," he laughed.
Taylor said he hopes the event made a difference and that all his classmates and teaches will sign up to be organ donors. As for the future, he said, he's taken on a new mission in honor of his brother.
"I hope to continue this when I head to high school and always remember. When I get my driver's license, I will sign the back and become an organ donor too."
