Alcantara, 24, made his MLB debut in the 2020 season, one in which he went 3-of-21 with one homer in 10 games in Detroit. He played both second base and third base. A switch-hitter, Alcantara has a .256 batting average in a minor league career that spans back to 2013. He primarily played shortstop in the minor leagues.
The Cubs’ 40-man roster sits at 38 players after the addition of Alcantara.
