(670 The Score) The Cubs have placed infielder Matt Duffy on the COVID-related injured list, the team announced Tuesday afternoon. Manager David Ross said it was a precautionary measure and no player has tested positive for the virus.
Duffy is the fourth Cubs player to land on the list in the past two days, as reliever Jason Adam, reliever Dan Winkler and reliever Brandon Workman received the same designation Monday. All of them are isolating away from the team. Cubs first-base coach Craig Driver and bullpen coach Chris Young tested positive for COVID-19 recently.
Driver and Young are feeling 'fine' after their positive tests, Ross said. Both coaches received their vaccination shots but believe they contracted the virus shortly afterward, before being deemed fully vaccinated.
Duffy, 30, was 1-of-8 with a walk at the plate while appearing in seven games for the Cubs.
In a corresponding move, the Cubs recalled infielder Ildemaro Vargas from their alternate site.
