The project marks the Georgia-native’s 7th studio project, and with it came a new approach to his creative process. “I feel like this whole record was sort of made with a very free mindset of ‘whatever feels good goes,’” he shared with Audacy’s Scotty Kay. “There was no box for me, which is how it should be. It’s supposed to be fun.”

Coloring outside the lines suits Rhett well and appears to be paying off as fans have tapped on of the most out-of-the-box songs, “Don’t Wanna Dance,” which interpolates Whitney Houston’s 1987 hit, “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me),” as an early favorite.

“It was not an easy feat… when you’re about to put arguably [one of] the most-listened and covered songs ever in one of our songs, and by one of the most amazing voices to ever live on this planet,” Thomas Rhett, told Billboard of the process behind the song which he found inspiration for driving down Nashville’s Music Row. “I was driving down Music Row and heard it, and when that chorus came on I was like, ‘I can’t not try this.’”

Other early favorites include the opening track, “Fool,” which Rhett says is regularly requested by his daughters and “Church,” which his wife, Lauren, calls her current favorite which is a high compliment considering the entire album is inspired by her.

“The content is very familiar because it’s all coming from my memories with my wife, whether it was from younger years to high school to now to future thinking about my marriage and all those kinds of things,” Rhett told American Songwriter. “I think my mission for this project was joy, smiling, and dancing. For the most part, it is mission accomplished.”
