BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - The City of Buffalo and Ciminelli Real Estate Corporation announced Wednesday that Hamburg-based Braymiller Market will operate the supermarket that will anchor the development at 201 Ellicott, which sits between the central library and NFTA bus station downtown.
The market, which began operations on Gowanda State Road in 1941, begins its first expansion into the City of Buffalo as a result of this partnership with Ciminelli Development.
"201 Ellicott is 201 units of affordable housing in Downtown Buffalo," Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown said. "One of the amenities that we were looking for was a market. The downtown residential community, downtown working community, and visitors downtown wanted a market downtown. We are pleased to be able to deliver on that committment today."
Tops Markets was initially planned to be the "major supermarket" at 201 Ellicott Street, though that plan obviously fell through.
Construction on the project will begin after the area is remediated because the lot is a brownfield project. Officials hope to have it up and running by April 2021.
There will be a public information meeting on the project on Thursday at the Bank of America building on Main and Huron from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
