Cheektowaga, N.Y. (WBEN) - After a flooding rainfall in August of 2018 and subsequent flooding in the Towers Boulevard neighborhood, the Town of Cheektowaga is taking action in beginning a drainage construction project that should mitigate similar situations in the future.

Supervisor Diane Benczkowski and town officials announced construction plans to fix and install new drainage in the Towers Boulevard neighborhood to remediate flooding concerns. The announcement comes after the Town held a public forum with residents following the flooding rainstorm.

“I organized the resident forum because I knew our residents had concerns and they needed to be heard,” said Benczkowski. “The town immediately went to work hiring a subcontractor to clean out and inspect our storm water system. Problem areas were identified and here we are today to announce a solution that will have a positive impact with lasting results easing the minds of residents.”

Phase II of these improvements will begin on West Cherbourg, West Toulon, North Seine (west of Towers) and Lille.  The anticipated start date for this phase is Monday July 8th.

Phase III of these improvements will begin on Audet, East Cherbourg, East Toulon, North Seine (east of Towers) and Towers. The anticipated start date for this phase is late August.

“With this project we are quadrupling the capacity of the storm water system in this neighborhood,” said Highway Superintendent Mark Wegner.

Streets will be posted “No Parking from 7am to 5pm, Monday – Friday” and the Town asks that all vehicles are removed prior to 7am.
