Expect final reopening plans this week for Williamsville CSD

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. (WBEN) - Williamsville Central Schools is expected to finalize their reopening plan either Monday or Tuesday, according to the district's superintendent.

"This has not been an easy process or situation as we have tried to come up with a plan that's going to be satisfying to all of our constituents," Superintendent Dr. Scott Martzloff told reporters on Monday. "That is a huge challenge given what we face with the pandemic."

The superintendent said there is a vocal group of people, specifically parents on social media, who want to share their thoughts on what's happening within the district. He even quipped that he tried contacting people from the last pandemic for guidance.

Teachers will not be allowed to live-stream instruction from their classrooms for students in kindergarten through fourth grade. Martzloff declined comment on the live-stream model for teachers across the district because they want to share their information internally before it is made public.

Martzloff insisted the lines of communication are open between the district and teacher's union.

"We met with them a week and a half ago and we are meeting again with them (Monday)," he said.

Communication will continue through the district's WITS system. Martzloff said the district has sent out weekly e-mails using the program.

"Just because we're finalizing a plan and making certain adjustments to the plan doesn't mean we're trying to withhold that from parents," Martzloff said. "We want parents to have that information to be able to make the best decision they can for their child. If their child has health issues, they might choose online learning. If their child doesn't have those and they want them back in class because they think it's better from a social and emotional standpoint, that might be their choice. Whatever they decide, we want them to make an informed and educated system as much as possible."
